Dear CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard,

We were away this weekend at the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival in Presque Isle this weekend, so this going out a bit late. What beautiful farming country that is up there!

We are very sad to report that our tomatoes have been affected more by the late blight than we thought. As the fruit ripens, it has rotten spots. So our tomato crop will be very small this year. I will be trying to get tomatoes from someone else, but this week we will possibly have one tomato for each of you:( What a hard year this has been. The potato crop in Aroostook County had been affected, but they had sprayed a lot and had it under control. Some fields were completely devastated. We will have potatoes this year, so we feel fortunate in that respect. Such is the uncertainty of farming.

Sarah and Sammie made blueberry jam this weekend! It is a low sugar recipe, and so delicious! So that is on the list along with carrots and beets.

Of course, our wines are always available, but can’t count toward your share, as wines cannot be prepaid. Jim has some new selections available this season!!
