Last CSA pickup 10/14/09

Dear CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard,

Cider is ready!! And a very good batch it is!! Remember that cider freezes very well, so you can keep it around for the holidays and cold winters nights by the fire with mulled cider!

This week will be the last official pickup of the season and a chance to stock up for the freezer and root cellar. As you all know, this has been a very hard year for farming here in Maine. Because of the amount of rain and lack of sun, many crops just didn’t grow well. Onions and winter squash, with the exception of spaghetti squash, were some of the casualties on our farm. We have lots of potatoes and leeks and we are dropping the prices on these, and other, items.

Please be sure to pick up your frozen blueberries, if you have not already!! And order your turkeys for the holidays!! These will be ready for pickup on 11/24.

I also want to let you know that our apprentices, Sarah and Sammie, will be leaving on 10/23. They have been amazing apprentices and we wish they would stay and be farm managers, but they have things to do and places to go. We thank them for all the very hard work they have given and for keeping up their spirits in a very difficult year!! We wish them good fortune and happiness in whatever they do, and may lots of vegetables be in your futures!!

So, here goes:
