It’s that time again!! 2009 CSA!!

Hello CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard,
I am busily planning the gardens and ordering seed!!  On a day like today, with yet more snow falling, it is warming to think of veggies and flowers!  It is time to sign up for this year’s CSA, if you haven’t already sent in your payment.  Again, we want to thank all of you who were able to send in your payments early so that we were able to participate in the Fedco discounts!!! It helps us keep our prices down, which benefits our shareholders.

We would like to get all payments in by 3/15.  Just like last year, choose your level of share/week and multiply by 14 – the number of weeks in our season.  Our address is:
Shalom Orchard
P.O. Box 4
Franklin, Maine 04634

If you have any questions, fire away!  Please let us know if you are not joining again this year or if you want to arrange payments, etc.  We just need to get a firm count!

Think Spring!

Thank you,

Our annual appeal – thank you!!

Dear CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard,
We want to thank all of you who sent in your share payments early so we could take advantage of the huge savings at Fedco by ordering with the Hancock County Organic Growers.  This order will go in this coming weekend, so there is still time to send in your share payment if you had intended to do and haven’t yet!!

For those who will be sending in your payments for this season, please send them in by March 15.  Please let us know if you are not going to be with us again this year.

“If every U.S. citizen ate just one meal a week (any meal) composed of local and organically raised meats and produce, we would reduce our country’s oil consumption by over 1.1 million barrels of oil every week.”   Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, by Barbara Kingsolver.  So think what you are doing for the environment!!  Tell your friends!!!

We’re starting to get excited about Spring coming and the 2009 season!!

Thank you,

Our annual appeal

Dear CSA members,

As those of you who were with us last year will remember, this is the time for our group order from Fedco.  Fedco is the organic growers supply that we buy most of our soil amendments from, located near Waterville.  By ordering as part of a group we are able to purchase at about 50% of retail.  This is a huge savings and one that we can pass on to you.

So we are asking that if any of you can send us your membership fee now, which is about a month earlier than the regular sign up date, this will help us take advantage of these huge savings.  The fees will remain the same this year:

$10/week shares for 14 weeks = $140.00
$20/week                    = $280.00
$30/week                    =$420.00

In planning the level of your share, remember that we base our prices on the MOFGA price list which is derived from farm prices in Maine.  We don’t know yet if prices will be higher this year.  You may want to consider a higher share level to take a possible price increase into account.

Also, it will be very helpful to me in planning our planting for this year, to know for sure if you are re-joining for the 2009 season.

Thank  you so much for your help.  They are trying to get the order off around the 1st to the 15th of February – sorry for the short notice, but I just got the notice!  Please reply so I can plan our order.

And, we do have eggs available if anyone needs some.

Enjoy the snow and stay warm!
