CSA Pickup for 9/30/09

Dear CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard,

I am back from spending a week with all my grandkids, and most especially, my newest grandchild, Liam, who is two weeks old today. It was a wonderful week and I want to thank Sarah for shouldering the work singlehandedly!! She did a great job!

There will be a break in the CSA until Wed., Oct. 14. We will be making cider the weekend before so we will have one final pickup that will include cider and fall veggies.

A reminder: We have turkeys for Thanksgiving!! Now is the time reserve the number you want. They will be available, fresh, just before Thanksgiving.

It looks like very few of you can make the Harvest Dinner, so we will not be having it this year. We are sorry for the disappointment for those who could come!

So here goes:

Wolf River apples 3/# (great for baking and sauce) tomatoes 3/# blueberry jam 6.50/12 oz jar blueberry syrup 8/bottle peppers 3./# summer squash 3/# broccoli 3.50/# (limited amount as the the side shoots are just starting) basil 2/bu parsley 1.50/bu dill 2/bu fennel 2/bu Savoy cabbage 2/# red cabbage 2.50/# green cabbage 2,50/ chard 3/# leeks 3.50/bu potatoes 2.50/half # Carrots 2.50/bu. sunchokes 3/# (have a nutty flavor and very high in Vitamin C – cook like potatoes) pesto !.50/oz swope bread $5/loaf

chicken 3.75/# You can order whole chickens, or quarters. smoked chicken 5.00/# (we will smoke these for you by order-so amazingly delicious!!) eggs 3.50/doz

We have other processed products and yarn for sale. Our CSA members, the Muise family, have put some of their own maple syrup in our store for sale.

Any of our farm products can count toward your share. Harmony Mill Farm products and Muise’s Maple are purchased separately.

Of course, our wines are always available, but can’t count toward your share, as wines cannot be prepaid. Jim has some new selections available this season!!

Please don’t hesitate to email me with any questions.

We are looking so forward to seeing you Wed. from 3-5:30PM. Thank you for your patience at pickup if things get a bit hectic!

Thank you, Charlotte

CSA Pickup for 9/23/09

Dear CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard,

Good morning. This is Sarah. I am sending the email this week as Charlotte is away visiting her newly born grandchild. Sammie is also away this week working on an art installation piece in Orono – so it’s just me! Not much to tell this week. Due to the soon wrap up of the season, we’re no longer ordering dairy products from John from Harmony Hill Farm. Though, you can continue to find his products at John Edwards Market in Ellsworth. And because Charlotte is gone, there will be no swope bread. If you haven’t picked up your frozen berries yet, this week is a great one to do so. Also, it’s important to note that it is best for you to send your emails no later than Tuesday. The majority of the harvesting is done on Tuesday and if your order is not in, then I may not have enough picked for when you come to pick up.

A reminder: We have turkeys for Thanksgiving!! Now is the time reserve the number you want. They will be available, fresh, just before Thanksgiving.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! Save the date of 10/10 at 5:00 PM to come to our Harvest Dinner! This is for all CSA members and Friends of the farm. We would like each of you to make a veggie dish, appetizer or dessert using our fruits and veggies if possible. We will make the breads, main dishes, wines and other surprises. Please bring your recipes on a card and we will start a cookbook! We’ve always talked of doing that. We will need firm RSVPs so that we can plan. We will skip CSA pickup on 10/7 so that we can concentrate on cooking that week and the last pickup will be on 10/14.

So here goes:

tomatoes 3/# blueberry jam 6.50/12 oz jar blueberry syrup 8/bottle peppers 3./# summer squash 3/# broccoli 3.50/# (limited amount as the the side shoots are just starting) basil 2/bu parsley 1.50/bu dill 2/bu Savoy cabbage 2/# red cabbage 2,50/# beans 3/75/# leeks 3.50/bu potatoes 2.50/half # Carrots 2.50/bu. pesto !.50/oz (limited amounts)

chicken 3.75/# You can order whole chickens, or quarters. smoked chicken 5.00/# (we will smoke these for you by order-so amazingly delicious!!) eggs 3.50/doz

We have other processed products and yarn for sale. Our CSA members, the Muise family, have put some of their own maple syrup in our store for sale.
