Hi Everyone, I have only heard from about half of you. Please read and respond. Thank you, Charlotte

Hello CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard,

Well, it is almost here – the first pickup of the season. Thanks to the wonderful help of our apprentices and WWOOFers, we have some yummy veggies and other products ready for you in spite of my time in the hospital and being laid up.

So this is how it works: I will list the products available for next Wed. along with the MOFGA prices. They publish a monthly price list based on Maine organic farms’ prices. We usually go by the wholesale prices in the list. You figure out what you would like to order based on your weekly share amount ($10, 20, 30/week, etc). You can always go over your weekly share, if we have availability, and pay by check or cash. PLEASE REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! Pickup at the farm is between 3-5:30 PM on Wed. Someone will bring the COA orders down Thursday afternoon around 4:00 PM in the South Entrance parking lot.

So here goes:

beet greens $3/bu garlic scapes(the curled seed pod) 2/bu scallions 2/bu mixed baby lettuce 2/quarter # spinach 2/quarter # ?radishes 2/bu rhubarb 2.50/# baby carrots 2/bu baby chard 2.5/# parsnips (spring dug) 2.50/bu sunchokes (Jerusalem artichokes) 3/#

organic fertile eggs 4/doz organic chicken (whole and quarters 4/#

From Harmony Mill Dairy: John Pierce will drop off orders for Wed. pickup. We do this just as a convenience. If you don’t know Harmony Mill Dairy, it is a small dairy in Waltham. The milk is unpasteurized and comes in returnable 1/2 gal. bottles. John Edwards carries this milk as well as other natural food stores. These products do not count as part of your share, they are paid for separately.

whole milk 2.50/1/2 gal skim 2.50/1/2 gal bottle deposit (one time) 2.75 cream 1.75/1/2 pint ricotta 3.50/#, 2.00/1/2# cheddar (mild or sharp) 6.50/# ricotta-salada 2/1//2 # marscapone (unsweetened) 6.50/#, 3.50/1/2 #

News of Your CSA

Dear CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard, What a different Spring this has been! All of my Spring markers showed up about three weeks early. Our apple bloom was fully two weeks early. It throws off farmers usual calculations for such things as when certain bugs appear and spray schedules for scab in the apples.

We have had some staffing changes, with some apprentices finding this not to be what they expected and others coming on board. We have very good folks helping out and several WWOOFers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) joining us throughout the season. Planting is on schedule!

All of this is especially amazing as I ended up in the hospital for 12 days due to a serious infection in my leg. I just got out on Sunday, and at this time, I am managing the farm from a wheel chair. Everyone carried on and I am so grateful for their extra work!

At this time, we anticipate the first pickup on June 30. This could change depending upon the weather. I will be sending out another email in a week or 10 days with all the details.

We hope all of you are enjoying Spring! We look forward to seeing old friends and welcoming new ones! Thank you, Charlotte
