Starting the 2009 season

Dear CSA and Friends of Shalom Orchard,

As everyone is aware, this has been a cold and wet Spring.  The cold weather slows the growth of the plants and the wet conditions slows planting and cultivation.  We had planned to begin the CSA on July 1, but have decided to postpone until July 8 to. hopefully, have some sun and have more to offer on our first CSA pickup.  I will email you over the weekend of July 4 with a list of what we have available.  We will have fresh chicken available on July 8, after that date it will be available frozen, until the next trip to the butcher.  We will have eggs available each week.  Also, as I mentioned in my last email, we will have some products available from other folks:  maple syrup from Muise’s Maple (one of our CSA members), unpasteurized milk and cheese from Harmony Mill Farm in Waltham, and fresh bread made by our apprentice, Sarah.  I will send out prices and details in the next email.

Our CSA runs for 14 weeks, which will take us to October 7.  We will be harvesting apples and making cider about that time.  I enjoy thinking of all the wonderful vegetables and fruits that will grow and nourish us between now and then.  I DO believe the sun will shine again!

PLEASE REPLY TO THIS EMAIL.  I am checking to be sure all of you are getting the emails.  Just reply “got it”.  Watch for another email over the weekend of  July 4.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon!!
